Why Get Certified?
1.To meet state license requirements and in support of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers standard qualifications for fossil fuel operators are in compliance with the Clean Air Act.

2. For career improvement because the health and safety of many people depend upon the proper operation and functioning of engineering equipment, an engineer must operate and maintain equipment according to state and local laws and codes. As a lower grade power engineer, they are under the general direction of a chief engineer or engineer holding a higher grade license whose license is equal to or above the requirements needed to operate the plant. They are to perform those duties prescribed by the higher grade engineer. As they advance their licenses through experience and study, they become qualified to take charge of an entire engineering plant operation. Through on-the-job training and application of study courses, a power engineer attains the skills and knowledge required.

3. To demonstrate worth and stability in job market as licensed power engineers have demonstrated a level of documented competency.

4. To provide school curriculum accreditation that establishes a list of subjects covering the experiences and technical knowledge required for each classification. Examinations are based on the proper curricula for all grades. By using these guides and textbooks suggested, any candidate can prepare for current examinations.

Obtaining Certification
To obtain your NIULPE license, you must start with the completion of the license application.

You must also have a person who holds a license one level higher than the level for which you wish to be examined sign your application. That license holder is attesting to, (1) your qualifications to hold the license desired, and (2) your ability to do the level of responsible work normal to that license level.

If you fail to pass an examination after a third attempt, you will be required to wait a minimum of twelve months prior to any further reexamination. Each examination requires that the examination fee be paid but only the application fee is paid once for each license level pursued. Following the passing of a license exam, the annual license fee is due the year of the examination and each November thereafter to maintain standing in the license.

Any group of License Candidates greater than ten people which desires to be examined on-site can schedule with the Secretary to have the same to be administered. Charges for Examiners' traveling expenses will be added if more than 50 statute miles from the geographic center of Atlanta, Georgia.

Renewing Your Certification
It is each individual license holder's responsibility to ensure that renewal payments are sent and received on time. All address changes, name changes, phone changes, etc., are to be immediately sent to the attention of the Examining Board Secretary, GSANIULPE and the National Office at https://www.niulpe.org.

Questions about the licensing process should be directed to the Examining Board Secretary of the G.S.A.N.I.U.L.P.E.
